The conference themes
have been selected to reflect the priorities of Oman and the
developing agenda of the Responsible Tourism Movement
internationally. There are international, regional, and Omani
speakers who will address the themes presenting both theoretical
perspectives and practical examples.
The Conference has four
themes
1.
Tourism, Livelihoods,
Local Economic Development and Human Resources Local community
benefits and the creation of employment opportunities for Omanis are
key objectives of tourism development in Oman and Omanisation is
proceeding a pace. Human Resource development in Oman is a
fundamental priority in the modernisation of the country.
2.
Responsible Tourism in a
World of Finite Resources For the first time
in the Responsible Tourism in Destinations Conferences we are
addressing the challenge of sustainable development of tourism in a
finite world: climate change, water, peak oil, and the conservation
of biodiversity.
3.
The Responsible Tourist,
Tangible and Intangible Heritage What is expected of
a responsible tourist in Oman and around the world? How can tourism
contribute to the maintenance of tangible and intangible heritage,
through its economic contribution and engendering local pride? What
steps need to be taken to avoid damage?
4.
Responsible Destinations
and Marketing For the first time in the Responsible Tourism in
Destinations Conferences we are directly addressing the key
question of how a destination attracts the kinds of tourists it
needs to achieve its Responsible Tourism objectives.
